6th Annual Military Appreciation Party and Freedom Rally to Honor Troops

Staff Reporter

Fort Wayne, IN September 15, 2008 - The 6th Annual Military Appreciation Party and Freedom Rally will be held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum located at 4000 Parnell Avenue in Fort Wayne, IN.

For the past five years, Rick Stephens has organized this party in honor of our service members and veterans and the event has grown by thousands every year. “This is expected to be one of the largest military appreciation parties in the nation,” Stephens says.

The crowd is getting ready to enjoy all the great music!

The party is made possible by the hard work of its volunteers and the graciousness of local companies like Kelly Automotive Group, Portraits by Cassie & Company, PBS-39 WFWA-DT Fort Wayne, WANE-TV, Olive Garden, KPC Media Group, Charmaine Models & Talent, Steel Dynamics, Inc., and Rock 104.

At 6pm on Friday, October 3rd, the doors of the Memorial Coliseum will swing wide open to thank the men and women who serve and protect us. Festivities begin at 7pm. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to bring a patriotic flag or sign. The event is free to the public and parking is also free for all service members and veterans. Prizes at the event will be awarded to all members and veterans of our Armed Forces.

The guests will be greeted by the great sounds of patriotic music from the Fort Wayne Community Band, the Fort Wayne Police and Fire Department Pipes and Drums, Mizpah Bagpipes and Scottish Pipes and Drums, and will be captivated by the Saint Francis University Cheer and Dance Team.

Sheila Van Dyke, an international touring comedian known as the “Ambassador of Laughter,” will co-host the event with Rock 104. Van Dyke is a veteran-of-sorts herself, having entertained troops both overseas and stateside with her one-woman show called “Mission of Laughter”. She has performed for our nation’s heroes in veteran homes, hospitals and at veteran posts throughout the country.

A local veteran and a member of the Women’s V.F.W. Aux. having a great time!

Once Sheila Van Dyke warms up the crowd, Mimi Burns and the Joey O Band promise to keep the crowd rocking through the night.

We welcome the public and their military heroes to a party of the highest honor!
